Carolingian fortified settlement Guran, Istria – excavations 2015, October 19th-29th

The excavations of the fortified settlement Guran in southern Istria continued from the 19th to the 29th October 2015. The aim of this campaign (mostly financed by the Croatian Ministry of Culture) was to continue the tracking of the western rampart wall towards south, and document its connection to the inner layout of the settlement.

The most important find in this campaign were four silver coins preliminary identified as coins of one of the Ottonian emperors, thus confirming our dating of the creation of the settlement.

Beside project team members involved in the excavations (M. Jurković, A. Borzaconni, J. Terrier), other team members took part in documenting the finds (R. Starac, M. Bradanović, S. Mustač, M. Levak), as well as a group of students from Zagreb University.
