Carolingian fortified settlement Guran, Istria – excavations 2016, October 11th-23rd

The excavations of the fortified settlement Guran in southern Istria continued from October 11th to 23rd.  The aim of this campaign was to continue the tracking of the western rampart wall towards south, and document its connection to the inner layout of the settlement.

The importance of Guran for the CROMART project is essential for the understanding of the transformations of the medieval landscape in a micro region in the long lasting period from the Carolingian rule till the end of the Middle Ages, when the settlement was abandoned.

Beside project team members involved in the excavations (M. Jurković, A. Borzaconni, J. Terrier) other team members took part in documenting the finds (R. Starac, M. Bradanović, S. Mustač, M. Levak), as well as a group of students from Zagreb University.
