Daniel Zec, MA, was born in Osijek in 1974. He studied Art History and Archaeology, at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb in 2003. He was awarded an MA degree from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb in 2011, based on the thesis Sculpture in Osijek in the Period between the Two World Wars. He currently attends the final year of the doctoral programme in art history at the faculty. The topic of his dissertation is life and work of Oscar Nemon (1906-1985), a sculptor from Osijek.
Since 2007, has been workingat the Osijek Gallery of Fine Arts as the curator of the Collection of 19th -and 20th -century sculpture of the Collection of medals and plaquettes. D. Zec coordinated numerous art exhibitions and museum programmes; edited several exhibition catalogues. His main research interest is sculpture and painting in the first half of 20th century. He is a member of the Croatian Society of Art Historians and the Museum Association of Eastern Croatia.
As a research fellow at the Henry Moore Institute, Leeds, in 2012, he conducted an archival and field research on Oscar Nemon’s work in England.
He participated in the international conference New Perspectives on Post War Art in Britain – cross-cultural engagements (Austrian Cultural Forum, London, 16 March 2012) with the paper Oscar Nemon in Perspective: from Pre-War Vienna and Belgium to Post-War Britain.
He is currently editing a book of essays on Oscar Nemon, complemented with the artist’s autobiography and doing a further research on the artist.
