Frano Dulibić was born in Zagreb where he finished elementary and Classical Grammar School. He studied art history and ethnology at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb. From 1991 to 1993 he worked at the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Research. Since 1993 he has been working at the Art History Department, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb teaching the compulsory course Introduction to Art History. Since 1993 he has also been teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, to students attending art teaching and restoration programmes.
F. Dulibić obtained his MA degree in 1997 and his PhD degree in 2002. He was elected associate professor in 2010. From 2004 to 2006 he was Head of the Art History Department and since 2006 he has occupied the Chair of Art History Education. Since 2003 he has been teaching elective courses at BA and MA levels (Illustration in Croatia, Central European Painting and Sculpture, History of Caricature in Croatia, Painting and Mass Media) as well as courses of the doctoral programme in art history within the department.
In 2001 he was awarded the professional development scholarship History and Theory of Art after the Cultural Turn at the Central European University in Budapest, and in 2004, was on the scholarship of the Goethe Institute for a study visit in Berlin.
He has published professional and scientific papers in various publications, participated in conferences, research projects and exhibitions. From 1999 to 2005 he was a researcher for the German Allgemeines Künstlerlexikon (K. G. Saur Verlag). The areas of his research interests include Croatian painting in the first half of the 20th century, caricatures, illustrations and comics.
He is a member of the Managing Council of the Croatian Society of Art Historians and AICA, and a researcher on the project Croatian Art from Classicism to Postmodernism, headed by Prof. Maković.
