The Carolingian fortified settlement of Guran in southern Istria, with its churches (the great basilica outside the city walls, the cemetery church of St Simon, and the church of St Cecilia on the edges of a roman villa rustica) is a long lasting research project of the IRCLAMA. From 2002 to 2012 in a Swiss-Croatian partnership (Jean Terrier, Miljenko Jurković) the three churches were excavated. After conservation they were opened to the public and incorporated in the offer of cultural tourism. Université Montpellier – public lecture by Miljenko Jurković, September 25th 2014
During comparative research in Languedoc and Catalonia, and work with project members G. Mallet, X. Barral I Altet, M. Guardia, C. Mancho, J. Molina, P. Chevalier, M. Jurković has given a public lecture entitled Les élites ecclésiastiques au XIe siècle en Croatie. La création d’un nouveau style at the University of Montpellier, giving some of the methodological aspects of the research to complete.
Comparative studies in the Languedoc region – September 2014
After the first project meetings in Poreč (Jurković, Barral, Caillet, Matejčić, Lucherini, Mustač, Levak, Bradanović) and Rab (Jurković, Brogiolo, Chavarria, Chevalier, Marković, Starac) in June 2014, and the meeting in Barcelona (Jurković, Barral, Mancho, Guardia, Molina) and in Montpellier (Mallet, Jurković) in September, the project team members have started to work on comparative materials. The PI, M. Jurković, as guest professor at the University of Montpellier (financed by other funds), has worked on early medieval sculpture in south-western France.
