Student mentorship for Exchange Students (SMES) is a system organized by the Club for the support of exchange students who choose to study at the Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology at the Faculty of Humanisties and Social Sciences in Zagreb, Croatia.
There are similar systems of mentorship for exchange students on the level of the Faculty and the University; our system is associated with our home Department (i.e. classes and student activities), and does not interfere with other systems.
By exchange student we mean any undergraduate, graduate or postgraduate student coming to study ethnology and cultural anthropology at our Department in an student exchange programme in which our Department is participating (ERASMUS+, CEEPUS etc.). Exchange students voluntarily choose whether they want a student mentor, and have the right to, at any moment, dismiss them.
Applicants for an student exchange programme will be informed who will be their mentore as soon as their application is confirmed at the Department and a mentor is chosen, and before their arrival to Zagreb/Croatia will recieve information and contacts (mail, cell phone/mobile phone number) of their mentor. Their mentors will also contact them themselves.
Any student of ethnology and cultural anthropology at our Department/Faculty/University can apply for mentorship, i.e. one does not have to be member of the Students’ Club. We wholeheartedly encourage any interested student to contact us. To easily organise everything, mentors will be chosen by the Committee (see below), along the guideline that the applicant has to have an knowledge of English or the mother tongue of the exchange student; it is an recommendation that the mentors be the same year in their undergraduate, graduate or postgraduate studies as the exchange student. If an applicant is not chosen, they can issue an complaint on the Committee’s descision.
We ask that the applicants read the Bylaw added below, which only obliges Club members and members of the Committee. The articles regarding mentors are written as to make easy the organization and functioning of the mentorship system.
An student’s mentors obligations are to contact and communicate with their respective exchange student, to help them in classes and solving student problems, to acquaint them with the Department and Faculty etc.; on an informal level, their main obligation is to include exchange students in the activities of other students of ethnology and cultural anthropology in Zagreb.
All notifications and notices regarding the student mentorship for exchange students will be published on this site, on the notice bord of our Department and the Club’s notice bord, as well as via e-mails, the Club’s Facebook page and students groups etc.

Studentsko mentorstvo za studente na razmjeni je sustav koji je Klub uspostavio radi podrške studentima na razmjeni u programima mobilnosti studenata koji dolaze studirati na Odsjek za etnologiju i kulturnu antropologiju Filozofskog fakulteta Sveučilišta u Zagrebu.
Budući da postoje slični sustavi za mentorstvo studentima na razmjeni na višim razinama Fakulteta i Sveučilišta, naš je usko vezan uz matični Odsjek (uz nastavu i studentske aktivnosti), te drugim sustavima mentorstva ne zalazi u područje djelatnosti.
Student na razmjeni je bilo koji student preddiplomskog, diplomskog ili poslijediplomskog studija koji dolazi studirati etnologiju i kulturnu antropologiju na Odsjek u sklopu programa mobilnosti studenata u kojima sudjeluje Odsjek. Studenti na razmjeni dobrovoljno ulaze u ovaj sustav, tj. dobrovoljno odlučuju žele li vlastitog studentskog mentora, i imaju pravo u bilo kojem trenutku odbiti ovu uslugu, te žaliti se na svojeg mentora.
Studenti na razmjeni bit će informirani o svojim studentskim mentorima čim mentori budu izabrani, i to prije njihovog dolaska u Zagreb/Hrvatsku, te će im se javiti kontakt (mail, broj mobitela) mentora, a mentori će ih također sami kontaktirati.
Za studentskog mentora može se kandidirati bilo koji student etnologije i kulturne antropologije pri Odsjeku, tj. ne mora biti član Kluba. Svesrdno pozivamo sve zainteresirane studente etnologije i kulturne antropologije da se jave. Radi jednostavnije organizacije, mentore među kandidatima bira Povjerenstvo (v. niže), pri čemu su smjernice odabira da poznaje engleski jezik ili materinji jezik studenta na razmjeni, a preporuka je Kluba da mentor bude na istoj godini studija kao i student na razmjeni. Ukoliko nije odabran/a, kandidat za mentora se može žaliti na odluku Povjerenstva.
Sve kandidate za studentskog mentora molimo da pročitaju pravilnik koji obvezuje samo članove Kluba i članove Povjerenstva. Odredbe koje se tiču mentora predviđene su kako bi se olakšala organizacija i provedba sustava mentorstva.
Obaveze studentskog mentora su kontaktirati i komunicirati sa studentima na razmjeni kojima su dodijeljeni, pomagati im u nastavi i rješavanju studentskih problema, upoznati sa radom Odsjeka i Fakulteta, o Fakultetu i sl.; na neslužbenoj razini, glavna je obaveza uključivanje studenata na razmjeni u aktivnosti drugih, redovnih studenata etnologije i kulturne antropologije iz Hrvatske.
Sve obavijesti vezano za sustav studentskog mentorstva za studente na razmjeni bit će pravovremeno razglašene putem ove stranice, na oglasnoj ploči Odsjeka i oglasnoj ploči Kluba, te putem mailova, Facebooka stranice Kluba i studentskih grupa i slično.
